Lagos State Governor's Consent: How to get it - Introduction

The land use act of 1978 makes it mandatory for a holder of right of occupancy (both actual grant or deemed grant) when carrying out subsequent transactions on the land, to obtain Governor's consent, either by way of assignment, mortgage, transfer of possession, sublease or as otherwise applicable.

In Lagos state, which has the largest real estate market in Nigeria, the process of obtaining Governors Consent has been streamlined. This gives an opportunity for would be applicants to within 30 days obtain the governor's consent for their transaction.

The new Lagos State Government's procedure for obtaining a Governor's Consent strives to achieve, among other things, transparency of procedure, reduced cost, elimination of delays and ease of obtaining title to land all with the aim of fulfilling the Governors pledge of service delivery to lagosians.

The department responsible for the processing of applications for the granting of Governor's consent in Lagos State is the Directorate of Lands Services at the Lagos State Lands Bureau, Alausa, Ikeja.
